The staff at Maple Grove are the best! Always cheerful when you check in and out and the equipment and locker room is always clean and working. I also have forgotten a couple things, my Apple Watch and my new water bottle! Both were brought to the front desk quickly for me to pick up! I can really tell they value their members and want people to feel welcome and taken care of.
There is a group on Sunday mornings that play basketball and bully people. I checked the morning of Sunday to see there were no court reservations. I just wanted to practice myself as I'm rehabbing a hip injury and can't play full speed. When working out on my own hoop I was suddenly in the middle of a full game with no warnings the group was planning to just play on my half of the court. As I told them if they could keep it on there half they told me they had reserved the court. I told them I checked this morning and that was a lie and this caused them to escalate the situation as now all ten men were yelling at me to get off. I then went to the front desk to ask the receptionist if they did reserve the court. She was very nice and apologized because I think this group does this a lot and said she would talk to them later but could do so now if I wanted to keep playing. Not wanting to be targeted by their group, I said it was fine.
So all in all, there are some patrons at this gym that don't follow rules and use gang mentality and size to bully other gym goers instead of talking like adults which I wouldnt expect at a luxury gym
The staff is great! Very friendly and willing to help. The kid center staff are fantastic. They are so friendly and caring for our kids. Our kids enjoy going to the gym all the time. The trainers are knowledgeable, very friendly and personable. The gym stays clean and organized. Overall, a great place to workout.
Undersized, questionable club level, and more importantly, unsafe.
I've trained at 12 LTF facilities across the nation for 15 years, and no facility has left me questioning my membership more than this one. Let me explain;
Not a true Gold facility when considering the like: Whether it be Woodbury, Plymouth or even South Jordan UT, each of these facilities seemingly meet equipment standards (e.g., X number of assisted chest fly; X number of stand alone lat pull downs, etc.) that I've seen across all other Gold facilities I've been to. Not only does the Maple Grove location fall short of this by a rather significant margin, the facility itself isn't the appropriate size in order to accommodate Gold level amenities that other Gold gyms in the metro area can manage. I'm convinced that the only reason this is a Gold level LTF is because of the Maple Grove label. Not a problem in and of itself (as this does help regulate gym population); however the facility needs to be up to standards to justify charging for Gold, otherwise this constitutes the criticism of 'Overcharging', 'Ripoff', or lack of value in general. Coon Rapids, Champlin, each nearby bronze level facilities are of better value. It's pretty hard to dismiss this feedback when it's a fact.
Safety: With consideration to the above, the gym floor feels over saturated with equipment (again, not even enough to meet what I'd consider Gold standards) laid out in such a way that is not only uncomfortable, but unsafe. Equipment is so tightly packed together that there isn't reasonable rest area for in between sets aside from the free-weight zone. I have also been bumped into during both bench press and lat pull down sets because there isn't enough room beside or behind the equipment to walk by. I intend to address this directly with the Maple Grove Mgmt.
Example (see photos): Flat bench's are forced up against the wall/mirror which doesn't allow for adequate all around access for proper spotting. The real issue here -- Although one can drag the bench away from the wall, this doesn't always cross the minds of those lifting, those who may already be apprehensive to ask for a spot. I can SELF IDENTIFY that I've needed to help with an emergency bar re-rack for someone late into their set lifting essentially to failure, from the side of the bench because the rear wasn't accessible. Additionally, directly to the right was another bench with someone else in the middle of their set limiting my ability to help the person in need, nearly knocking his bar in the process. All of this could be prevented if benches were turned around with placement beginning from the center of the room so that people aren't prohibited in any shape or form from providing a spot or re-rack. Emergency re-rack's do happen, but the facility lay out shouldn't in any way inhibit safety. I'm also surprised that more mirrors haven't been shattered.
TLDR: New building needed; money being spent on cosmetic details when the brick and mortar is itself is the complication. Unsafe gym equipment floor layout due to the former, with the building itself limiting the facility's ability to even meet the equipment standards that of those constitute a Gold level facility.
Separate feedback has been sent to corporate directly; no response has been received. I hope this situation can get sorted out in the near future as there is FAR too much similar feedback below.
The rates went up but, the hours didn’t increase, the kids club hours didn’t increase, shoes stolen from the locker room, hot tub not monitored guys fully nude at times in there, steam room smells like mildew from the drain, the bench/sitting area has a sharp corner of tile (safety corner) also missing grout. alway not clean in there on the sitting area also, the Stair masters a few hasn’t been working for a couple weeks.
Plus side the staff when you come in at the front desk are very welcoming and nice.
They should increase the care of the facility and hours before the rates
The increase in the membership rate isn’t justified when nothing has improved. Plus side the weights work just fine
This location is completely disappointing. All the equipment is incredibly dated and absolutely stacked a top one another. It is as if the equipment fell straight out of the 90's on to its side and broke a hip in the process.
Groups of minors (like 12 yo's, who clearly do not know how to correctly use the equipment safely) use the lifting area and machines as a hangout spot.
No one seems to understand racking their weights as numerical order is an unknown concept. As is, apparenlty, how to wipe a machine off after oneselves.
Planet fitness is, and I honestly can not believe I'm saying this, a cleaner more organized fitness club at a fraction of the cost. I would bet money others like Crunch Fitness or similar are as well.
Just astoundingly disappointed in the once great Life Time
2 stars for front office staff and a clean locker room
Every lifetime had a different tear and price. For the price your better off going to LA fitness down the street. The locker rooms are uncormfotably to small. If you like running on a treadmill or a track this is right up your alley. If your into lifting weights I would either go to another LTF club or another gym.
This is my go to Gym it’s the closest to me. I love the locker rooms but they literally never have deodorant anymore. After I first signed up they don’t put it out any more. Which is a bummer..
You do get to use the spray deodorant (if you like manly scents)
The hot tub/sauna/ steam saunas are all inside the locker rooms. I can never sit with a loved one of the opposite sex… Plymouth is my go to for unisex friendliness!
There’s almost always equipment open for use!
The Classes with Tina are just heavenly. She’s amazing at what she does! I go to this gym just for her!
There are so many classes to choose from and mostly good instructors teaching them p.s (Tina)
The slide was quite fun in the pool area and they even have a rope you can swing on to swing in the pool..
I loved playing with family the pool volleyball.
And the inside splash pad was so fun 🤩 even for an adult 🙌
My favorite part of the Lifetimes is the uniqueness and different things they offer even from each other.
